THOUGHTS FOR DAILY LIVING
Compiled by Dr. Michael E. Todd

(It is hoped that the following thoughts may be of help,
a blessing and will give guidance in the reader's life.)

Find out what pleases God and then do it.

The Word of God is sealed to them
that are false in their relationship with God.

Only one life 'twill soon be past,
Only what's done for Christ will last.

Nothing is easier than faultfinding,
no talent, no self denial, no brains,
no character are required to set up in the grumbling business.

If you want to wipe out a friendship, sponge on it.

Two fires came from above,
One fell on Sodom and the other fell at Pentecost -
Two places
Heaven and Hell, we are headed for one or the other,
and after death then the judgment.

It's not what you do with a million
if fortune should be your lot;
but what are you doing today
with the dollar and quarter you've got.

A pessimist is a person who
is seasick the entire voyage of life.

Knowledge will give you power,
but character will give you respect.

Much happiness is overlooked
because it doesn't cost anything.

A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.
People that think highly of themselves are a long way from God.

Idolatry is trusting people, possessions or positions
to do for me what only God can do.

Right sustains you, wrong turns on you.

Kindness is a language
the deaf can hear and the blind can see!

A crackpot is a person with a new idea:until it succeeds.
Then he's a genius.

You might lose a battle, but you can go on to win the war.

Your failure does not have to be final.

If you wish to know God, you must know His Word.
If you wish to perceive His power,
you must see how He works by His Word.
If you wish to know His purpose before it comes to pass,
you can only discover it by His Word.
(C.H. Spurgeon)

A person with an hour to kill
usually wants to spend it with someone
who can't spare a minute.

When we have His joy and His peace,
we are spiritual millionaires.

The man who does the job is not the one with fancy footwork
but the one who keeps fighting on.

Faith is the conviction of realities I cannot see or feel.

Not keeping an appointment is an act of clear dishonesty.
You may as well borrow a person's money as his time.
(Horace Mann)

The eyes are very seldom thankful.

You cannot help but reproduce after yourself;
gloom or joy, love or hate,
concern or unconcern, positive or negative.

If in doubt - don't.

Never make a decision when you are down.

Shore up your down times when feeling low,
think about things that will lift you up.

Don't say anything unless there is a reason.
Don't say too much. Choose your words carefully.

Be careful about doing things
without a great amount of thought to it.

Never ride on the coattails
of another person's position or popularity.

Nothing shows what we are more accurately
than the way we meet trials and difficulties.

A man of words and not of deeds is like a garden full of weeds.

Experience is a hard teacher.
She usually gives the test first, the lesson afterwards.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

What is popular is not always right.
What is right is not always popular.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

You can't serve a holy God and live a hellish life.

Never give the devil a stick
that he can beat you over the head with.

Always tell God the truth. He knows it anyway.

You are either God's pleasure or his problem.

Man did not come from monkeys
but he sometimes acts like a donkey and is going to the dogs.

Definition of politics:
Poly means many and a tick is a blood-sucker.

A child is not likely to find a Father in God
unless he has found something of God in his father.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

You can give without loving,
but you cannot love without giving.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

Folks don't plan to fail,
they fail because they didn't plan.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

He who prays as he ought,
will endeavor to live as he ought.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

Don't believe that winning is really everything.
It's more important to stand for something.
If you don't stand for something, what do you win?
(Lane Kirkland)

Faith is like radar that sees through the fog -
the reality of things at a distance that the human eye cannot see.
(Corrie Ten Boom)

Diamonds are pieces of coal that stuck to the job.

Keeping your mouth shut
will keep a lot of ignorance from leaking out.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

The food that enters the mind
must be watched as closely as the food that enters the body.

There is one thing for which you should be thankful,
only you and God have all the facts about yourself.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

Two Indians had been watching the construction of a lighthouse and came over to see the thing open on the big day.
It was all set with the lights, the bell and the horn;
but the day it was due to open, the worst fog of all fogs came in.
One Indian said to the other: "Let shine, bell ring, horn blow,
but fog come in just the same."
We've never had more lights shining, and bells ringing,
and horns blowing in the church than we have today.
We've never had more fog either.

The Virgin-born One,
Lived a Virtuous life,
Died a Vicarious death,
and Gained a Victorious resurrection.

What a man stands for isn't everything;
what he falls for counts too.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

The Christian Life is a pilgrim journey,
not a sight-seeing tour.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

"Attention K-Mart shoppers"
turns more heads than
"Thus saith the Lord!"
(Dr. Sam Gipp)

The family altar would alter many a family.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

Gossip is a deadly microbe,
It has neither legs nor wings,
It is composed entirely of tales,
And most of them have stings.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

Soft-soap from the pulpit will not cleanse the sinner in the pew.

DO not fear to be a loner in the crowd.
Eagles do not fly in flocks.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

Elijah could stand before Ahab because
he was accustomed to standing before God.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

Every time you are absent from a church service,
it's a vote to close the church!

When opportunity knocks,
it helps to get off your duff and answer the door.

If we would be entirely honest as we sing our hymns,
we would sing something like this:

"I Surrender Some"
"There May Be Sprinkles of Blessing!"
"Fill My Thimble, Lord!"
"Oh, How I Like Jesus"
"He's Quite A Bit To Me"
"I Love To Talk About Telling The Story"
"Take My Life But Let Me Be"
"It Is My Secret What God Can Do!"
"There Is Cloudiness In My Soul Today!"
"At Ease, Christian Soldiers!"
"Where He Leads Me, I May Follow"
"Just As Others Think I Am, Without One Plea"
"When The Saints Go Slinking In"

The difference in the atonement in the O.T. and the N.T.
is that in the O.T. the sheep died for the shepherd,
but in the N.T. the Shepherd died for the sheep.

To yield to the will of God is not bondage but blessing.

The huge stone at Jesus' tomb was a mere pebble
compared to the Rock of Ages inside!

What you endure you will eventually embrace.

If you want to BE:
Discouraged - look around
Disappointed - look at others
Disgusted - look at yourself
Delighted - look up to Christ!

Jealousy makes us smaller in the hearts of our friends,
weaker in the eyes of our adversaries
and defenseless in the hands of our enemies.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

The only exercise some people get is
jumping to conclusions,
sidestepping responsibility,
dodging issues,
passing the buck and
pressing their luck.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

God will not send you into a forest to hew an oak with a penknife.
If He gives you a task you never did,
He will give you a strength you never had.

Treasures in heaven are laid up
only as treasures on earth are laid down.

Happiness comes when we stop
wailing about the troubles we have and
offer thanks for all the troubles we don't have.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

If you feel that you are too big to occupy a small place,
you are too small to occupy a big place.
(Dr. Ralph Stewart)

If some men grew physically at the rate they grow spiritually,
many of them would spend their lives in the playpen.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

Nearly all men can stand adversity,
but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.
(Abe Lincoln)

A successful husband is one
the wife says she would marry all over again.

Following the line of least resistance
makes men and rivers crooked.
(Voice in the Wilderness)

Our spirituality can be compared to an airplane ride.
The higher we ride the smaller things on earth become.

Loneliness seems to be one price
the saint must pay for his saintliness.
Always remember this:
you cannot carry a cross in company.
Though a man were surrounded by a vast crowd,
his cross is his alone and
his carrying of it marks him as a man apart.
(A.W. Tozer)

Why can't life's problems hit us when we're eighteen
and know all the answers?

We ought to choose the things that please God,
not ourselves.

To learn strong faith is to endure great trials.
I have learned my faith by standing firm amid severe testings.
(George Mueller)

The glory of God is
the altar on which self dies and holy service is born.

There are some kids who should be applauded with just one hand.

A liberal is a man who leaves the room when the fight begins.

Some folks have every attribute of a dog except loyalty.

It is never wise to argue with a fool -
those standing nearby might not know which is which.

A church that has to be supported by tea parties,
ice-cream socials, and fried chicken
is as weak as the tea, as cold as the ice-cream,
and as dead as the chicken.
(You're welcome.)

The Lord sometimes takes us into troubled waters,
but never to drown us, only to cleanse us.

It does not pay to "have a good time"
at the expense of an uneasy conscience the next morning.

It does not pay to spend the
last half of life in remorse or regret for the first half.

It does not pay to go to church in the morning
if we are planning to go to the devil in the evening.

It does not pay to give God the husks instead of the heart.

There are incidents in the life of the child of God,
but no accidents.

The trouble with God's people today is that
they want to get to the promised land
without going through the wilderness.
