THE GREATEST TREASURE

For centuries a sizeable lump of rock lay in a brook in North Carolina. Many who passed by it just saw a lump of rock. Then one day a man saw it to be a stone heavy enough to hold open his cabin door. He took it home and used it for that purpose. Still later a geologist passed by and saw it to be a lump of gold, the biggest nugget ever found east of the Rockies. Many differ in the value they place upon an object but that does not change its true value.

Many years ago a man called Jesus of Nazareth crossed the horizon of time. People of that day saw Him only as a Galilean peasant and passed on taking no interest in Him at all. Some listened because they felt He was a very good teacher and prophet. Others followed Him because of the miracles He performed. Also many looked on Him as an impostor, one whom they thought, made false claims about Himself. Still others saw Him as the Christ, the Son of God, the Saviour of sinners, and yielded themselves to Him.

Now the question is: "What do YOU think of Christ?" Have you looked at Him only as a mere peasant who walked the shores of Galilee? Perhaps you have looked upon Him as only a teacher and prophet, wondering at the miracles which He performed. You may even be among those who look on Him as an impostor, because He claimed to be the Son of God. These may be the only thoughts that you have of Christ.

Those who saw Him as the Son of God recognized Him to be the Saviour of sinners. They owned their condition as sinners before God. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;" (Romans 3:23). They accepted the work that He has done for them on the cross. "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, . . . by whose stripes ye were healed." (1 Peter 2:24). Through this they received forgiveness of sins and eternal life. "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." (John 3:36).

Friend, do you know Christ to be your Saviour? Have you received forgiveness of sins? Do you have eternal life? If not, the wrath of God will abide on you. Receive Him as YOUR Saviour today.
