"The HIDDEN Things of God"

(Hebrews 11:23) By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment.

The Bible records three separate occasions during his life when Moses was hidden.

  • Moses was hidden FOR God.
  • (Exodus 2:2) And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.

Shortly after his birth Moses was hidden for the first time. His mother hid him three months before she put him in the little ark and sent him off on the first leg of his journey. This verse and the one in Hebrews tell us his mother knew he was "a goodly child" and "a proper child." Every mother thinks this of her children. But it was God's need for Moses that was being revealed to her. She didn't know what role Moses would play for God but she knew God wanted him. His mother hid him for future service to God.

  • Moses was hidden FROM God.
  • (Exodus 33:20-23) And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live. And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

The second time Moses was hidden was when he was on the mountain and He wanted to see God. This was around the middle of his life. He was hidden from God for his own protection. Anyone who looked on God would die so God hid him in the cleft of the rock and covered him with His hand while He passed by. Moses was, however, allowed to see the back of God. Moses was hidden to follow God, not go on ahead of Him or be equal with Him. Moses was to be the servant of God.

  • Moses was hidden BY God.
  • (Deuteronomy 34:5-6) So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD. And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day.

The third and last time Moses was hidden was at the end of his life. To this day no one knows the burial place of Moses. Moses was hidden by God. Moses was hidden because God will use him again some day in the near future during the Great Tribulation. He will be one of the two witnesses spoken of in the book of Revelation. The work of a true servant of God is never finished. God has used the life of many a dedicated servant for His benefit long after that person has died.

During his lifetime Moses was hidden from the world (Exodus 1:22), the flesh (Exodus 33:18), and the devil (Jude 1:9). They are the greatest stumbling blocks in the Christian's life and in his service for God. If you want to be used of God and be a true servant of His then you need to learn from "the hidden things of God."
